Getting Ready For Halloween At The Redfern Home...

Horseman Horror!

Since today is the spookiest day of the year, my new Mysterious Universe article focuses on an old English affair of ghostly proportions that occurred in the county of Dorset back in 1924. It involves nothing less than the spectral form of a Bronze Age-era warrior and his equally spectral horse...

UFOs & The JFK Assassination

Over at the website of the Dallas Morning News, there is a small feature on me which deals with one of the strangest aspects of the JFK assassination (which reaches its 50th anniversary in just a few weeks), namely, the links to the UFO subject...

Here's the link.

A British Bigfoot...?

And while we're on the topic of Bigfoot in Britain, there is this story from the UK's Telegraph newspaper on a hairy man-thing running around the English county of Kent. Either that, or it's someone monkeying around...

The Orford Wild Man...

My latest Mysterious Universe article...on the "Wild Man" of Orford, England - a proto-Bigfoot if ever there was one!

Lizard Man - The Book

There's a new article from me at Mysterious Universe on Lyle Blackburn's brand new book, Lizard Man (for which I wrote the Introduction). And here are my opening words of the article...

"In 2012, Anomalist Books published what I personally consider to have been the finest cryptozoological title of that year: Lyle Blackburn’s The Beast of Boggy Creek. It quite rightly received excellent reviews and justifiably thrust both Lyle and the Fouke Monster, itself, firmly into the limelight. Sometimes, however, when an author puts out such a great first book it can beg a potentially awkward question: how do you follow it with an equally good second one?"

Well, the answer to that question is you follow it just as Lyle has - with an excellent new title, Lizard Man, of course!

For fans of Cryptozoology and Forteana, don't miss this one!

Exposing the Cattle Mutilators

"This past weekend, I spoke at the Minneapolis-based Paradigm Symposium, on the subject of my new book, For Nobody’s Eyes Only. Also lecturing were Micah Hanks (on his latest title, The Ghost Rockets), David Weatherly (on his forthcoming book on the phenomenon of Tulpas – which, David was telling me, should be published around the end of the year), John Ward and Scott Roberts (who have a new release, The Exodus Reality), and numerous others, including Chris O’Brien.

"For me, Chris’ presentation was the most significant of the 4-day event, and I’ll tell you why. But first, a bit of background. If you aren’t familiar with Chris’ work, then you really should be. He’s the author of a number of excellent books of a definitively Fortean nature , including Enter the Valley, The Mysterious Valley, Stalking the Tricksters, and Secrets of the Mysterious Valley. But, it’s the details of Chris’ forthcoming book that we’re focusing on right here, and which was also the subject of Chris’ lecture at the Paradigm Symposium."

That's how my latest Mysterious Universe article starts on Chris' new book, which is sure to create a storm of interest and controversy!

Strange Intruders...

While I was at the Paradigm Symposium this past weekend, friend and author David Weatherly very generously gave me an 18 inch X 12 inch poster of the cover of his new book, Strange Intruders. And here it is, on the living-room wall! Looks good!

The Colonized: Zombies Vs Aliens

If, like me, you're a fan of all-things of a zombie nature, then this might interest you: a new, 90-page graphic novel (from Chris Ryall and Drew Moss) titled The Colonized: Zombies Vs Aliens, which I've written the introduction for.

The Paradigm Symposium...

A few photos from this year's Minneapolis-based Paradigm Symposium which I got back from late last night: (a) David Weatherly and his wife, Teresa; (b) Paranormal Podcast host, Jim Harold; (c) me and Chris O'Brien; (d) A symposium shot; (e) a weird sign (for a tornado shelter which me and David Weatherly tried to get into but couldn't...); (f) an intrusive security camera right above my table (and since I hate security cameras I took a shot of it with one hand while shooting it the finger with the other hand); and (g) goofing off.

Zombies and Spanish Flu

Re the title of this blog-post: it's the subject of my latest Mysterious Universe article...

And the final paragraph of the article should be read carefully by "End-Times" nuts...

Lizard Man: Published on Halloween

Published on (very appropriately!) Halloween, is the new book from Lyle Blackburn. Its title: Lizard Man: The True Story of the Bishopville Monster.

It's an excellent book - and I know, as I wrote the foreword. If cryptozoology, Forteana and mystery animal-themed road-trips are your thing, don't miss this one!

Here's the publisher's (Anomalist Books) info on Lizard Man:

"From the swamplands near Bishopville, South Carolina, come reports of a seven-foot-tall, scaly humanoid creature the locals call the 'Lizard Man.' Over the years, the creature has been seen by numerous witnesses, including a teenager who claimed it attacked him one night near a remote area called Scape Ore Swamp. The young man's testimony and physical evidence was so compelling, it not only launched a serious investigation by the local sheriff's office but an all-out monster hunt that drew hundreds of people to the small town.

"This real-life 'creature from the black lagoon' has inspired major national news coverage, even a call from the famous CBS news anchor, Dan Rather, as he and the rest of the world clamored to know more about Bishopville's elusive monster. The case is often mentioned in books, websites, and television shows, but the full story has never been told... until now. This book provides unprecedented documentation for one of the most bizarre and hair-raising cases of an unknown creature. The witnesses are convinced they've seen it, and the local law officials are backing them up. This is their story.

"Follow Lyle Blackburn, author of the bestselling book The Beast of Boggy Creek, as he and his partner, Cindy Lee, revisit the sighting locations, speak to the living eyewitnesses, and consider all possible theories in their search for the truth behind the legendary Lizard Man."

That's me and Lyle below, with some big hairy geezer:

The World Cup Beckons!

Well, since the England football team beat Poland 2-0 and now qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, it's time for my 6-foot X 3-foot English flag to go on display! PS: For non-Brits who are thinking "That's not the Union Jack." No it's not! The U.J. is the British flag, but the red cross on a white background is the English flag - which is very different! And there it is, in all its glory!

Perils of a Pet Cemetery

There's a new Mysterious Universe article from me, on the subject of a strange beast that roamed around the Haldon Hills of Devon, England in the 1990s. It starts like this...

"In 1983, Stephen King’s acclaimed novel, Pet Sematary, was published. As the title suggests, it told of dark and malevolent activity in a Maine, USA pet-cemetery. Six years later, in 1989, the book was turned into a movie, for which punk rock gods, the mighty Ramones, provided the theme-tune. Of course, King’s story was just a highly-entertaining piece of fiction. It does, however, and somewhat incredibly, have its very own, real-life equivalent.

"It is a little known fact – to outsiders, at least – that deep within the sprawling and wooded Haldon Hills of Devonshire, England there exists what might accurately be termed an unofficial pet-cemetery. A distinctly tranquil and gentle locale, it has for years acted as the final resting place for many a deceased and much-loved loved pet – whether dog, cat, rabbit, canary, hamster, guinea-pig or something far more exotic."

And here's the complete article...

Kolchak: The Night Stalker

Well, while lecturing in Dallas last Friday, I stopped off at the local "Half Price Books" shop and made an excellent find: an incredibly cheap, perfect-condition box-set of all 20 episodes of one of my all-time favorite series: Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Good deal!

The Changing Face of Ufology

Last week, over at Mysterious Universe, I wrote an article demonstrating how the interaction between us, the Human Race, and the UFO phenomenon has clearly changed over the course of the last few decades.

It became very obvious when the article appeared that whole swathes of people failed to read the article properly and concluded I was implying the phenomenon had gone away - which is the exact opposite of what I said!

So, I  then wrote a follow-up article (to try and it get into the heads of those who apparently couldn't fathom what I was on about) to reinforce what I was really saying.

Here's article one, and here's the follow-up.

Close Encounters of the Fatal Kind...

Yeah, I know I have a new book out right now (For Nobody's Eyes Only), but it's never a good thing to sit still, which means....coming next year...

For Nobody's Eyes Only

Just had copies arrive of my new book, For Nobody's Eyes Only...

And here's the publisher's (New Page Books) info on the book:

Under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act, government agencies have declassified millions of pages of documents on numerous subjects.

But there are other files, many of a far more intriguing nature than those the government has already released. They’re the ones that agencies haven’t released.

They include the files that supposedly can’t be found, that are suspiciously “missing,” as well as the top-secret papers that agencies admit exist but which they are determined to keep hidden from us. The reason: to prevent the truth behind some of the biggest conspiracies of all time from ever surfacing.

For Nobody’s Eyes Only includes fascinating new information on:
  • The conspiracy-filled story of the buried files and photos documenting the legendary Roswell UFO crash of 1947
  • The truth about the secret records of the JFK assassination that still remain sealed from public view
  • The sensational and missing data behind the Watergate scandal that brought down President Nixon
  • The mysteriously vanished documents on the CIA’s controversial “mind-control” operation, Project MKUltra

A Conference and the MIB

Got back home on Monday night from the Philadelphia-based conference of the Pennsylvania chapter of MUFON, which was an excellent gig, thanks to organizer John Ventre and the team.

Here's a few shots (below) from the event: Fred Saluga (who spoke on the Cryptozoology-UFO connection); John Ventre and author Anthony Sanchez deep in discussion, some of the PA MUFON team, and me hanging out with Travis Fire in the Sky Walton.

And here's a new Mysterious Universe article from me (on the MIB), which focuses around my lecture at the MUFON gig.

Zombies, Wendigos, and Cannibalism

Those three topics listed in the title of this post are the subject of my latest Mysterious Universe article that you can find here, and that starts like this:

"There can surely be very few people who are not aware of how, in recent years, all things of a zombie-themed nature have infected whole swathes of the populace – and on a planet-wide basis, no less. Indeed, the worldwide craze for the undead is practically spreading faster than a real zombie virus could ever do! In the world of on-screen fiction, the process of turning man into flesh-eating monster usually results directly from the effects of a lethal, fast-acting pathogen.

"In the late 1800s, however, a man whose terrible actions of the cannibalistic kind remain as notorious today as they did more than 130 years ago, claimed that his transformation into a deranged devourer of people was caused by something very different than a mysterious virus: a Wendigo. And what might that be, exactly? Read on…"

Mind Power

My latest Mysterious Universe article (which you can find right here) focuses on one of the strangest, and certainly controversial, phenomena of all: that of the Tulpa...
